Organic foods have found immense popularity among the mass today as more and more people are aiming towards nutritious eating and healthy living. In this digital age while technology is steering the world to a progressive path, it is also making us lethargic and at times distracting us from healthy living habits.

Organic basically means natural or coming from a living matter. Hence, organic food means the food produced naturally without involving any kind of chemical fertilizers, pesticides or other modern day artificial methods such as GMO.
Basically, there are two classifications within Organic Foods. One of them is plant produce that comprises different types of cereals, pulses, fruits, and vegetables. The second type comprises animal produce such as meat, milk, eggs, etc.
The process of producing organic food from plants is called Organic Farming. The livestock is raised in a natural habitat rather than closed environment to produce organic foods from animals.

Organic food is considered healthy because no artificial methods or chemicals are used to produce food from either plants or animals. Traditional farming uses chemical fertilizers, pesticides, bioengineering, sewage sludge, or ionization radiation to grow plants. On the other hand, livestock is raised using growth hormones and antibiotics for higher production.
For organic foods, none of these methods are used. Instead, pure natural methods such as organic manure, and compost are used to treat the crops. Also, weeds are taken care naturally with the help of crop rotation, mulching, tilling, and hand weeding. In addition to that, pests are controlled 100% naturally to make sure there’s no element of any artificial or chemical based product used throughout the plantation as well as harvesting process of the crops.
Similarly, organic livestock is raised by developing natural habitat for the animals to graze in the open. No GMO-based or hormone enhancer diet is given to the livestock. Also, the shelter houses for the animals are regularly cleaned. They are given healthy diet to ensure that the livestock doesn’t encounter any disease.

Organic food is more rich in nutrients: As there is no interference from chemicals, organic foods retain higher nutrients compared to those produced by traditional non-organic ways. Organic foods also have higher fibre content and also have more active antioxidants. Organic foods are proven to boost immune system as well.

Better for the environment: Organic farming is purely environment-friendly as the land remains fertile. Hence there are no chemicals mixed with the terrain as well as the animals lead a healthy and long life. It also results in a much lower carbon footprint and hence keeps our planet safer.
